The Production Lead Hand will report to the Manufacturing Manager and be responsible for leading by example in the day to day production of precast concrete walls, floors and other assemblies surrounding the precast concrete elements. The Production Lead Hand will be capable of setting up moulds, measuring and performing the layout of parts and showing others how to do this with accuracy and speed. Production is carried out with two production halls in a semi-automatic, computerized, high-tech concrete production and assembly plant and a manual custom hall for off-production assembly line components such as retaining and footing walls. Responsible for all day to day shop floor production in coordination with the Manufacturing Manager, Quality Supervisor, Production Planner and Maintenance Manager.


Responsibilities

  • Understand the production requirements for each week and days ahead 

  • Work with the Manufacturing Manager to optimize the production process

  • Review manpower and plan shift to best suit production requirements

  • Organize the workers on your shift so that each worker clearly knows what is expected of them for the day, assist in areas where training, coaching and motivation is required to achieve production requirements

  • Ensure work stations and sub assemblies are set out on the assembly line

  • Ensure workers have the correct tools at the stations

  • Set up moulds, check quality of formwork and ensure the formwork fabrication is correct for the type of parts being produced and that it meets the expected quality standards and finishes

  • Organize, coach and motivate production workers in sub assembly areas such as mesh cutting, bending, rebar tieing, and the custom carpentry shop making custom formwork and blockouts. while conducting work such as mesh cutting and bending, rebar tying, and making custom formwork and block outs

  • Lead by example with regards to workmanship, attendance, timeliness, loyalty, mutual respect and support for organizational teamwork 

  • Provide hands on support to team members as needed

  • Champion safety with all production personnel

  • Read diagrams and shop drawings to determine work procedures and layouts, check layouts to ensure the work is correct

  • Maintain a high standard of quality for all products as outlined by CPCQA and Management

  • Liaise with quality control, determine why a quality issue occurred and invoke corrective action to prevent future occurrence of the quality issue 

  • Be a continuous improvement champion

  • Provide employee evaluations of shop floor workers and work to improve their performance 

  • Build and develop a great team of production people in the precast plant


Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

  • Highly motivated, fast mover and shaker type who can give orders and lead by example by doing

  • CPCQA certification considered an asset

  • Fine carpentry, good organizational skills, concrete pouring, curing, finishing knowledge and experience

  • Must be physically fit

  • Must have excellent communication, both verbal and written 

  • Must be a team player, but can work independently
