Design-Build Sales Engineer

We are a vertically integrated Design-Build General Contractor that believes in advancing construction techniques with leading edge technology. We are unique from other contractors in that we manufacture our prefabricated steel and precast concrete components in our own manufacturing facility in Guelph, Ontario.


As we continue to expand, we are looking to grow our team with an adaptable, persuasive, energetic and dynamic person as a Design-Build Sales Engineer. You will provide a strong expertise in construction, sales, estimating and client servicing and will work to improve our market position and help us achieve financial growth. The candidate will define long-term organizational strategic goals, build key customer relationships, identify business opportunities, negotiate and close business deals as well as maintain extensive knowledge of current market conditions.

Job Requirements:


General Sales, Marketing and Client Relations

  • Seek out and engage with potential clients and discuss the opportunities of building with Kiwi Newton and manage the discussions from conception to final contract.

  • Host sales presentations and meetings to secure client interest in our Building Systems and answer any questions regarding Kiwi Newton and our offerings.

  • Support the Marketing Team in developing marketing content (technical writing, articles, blogs, newsletters) and targeted campaigns to generate interest in the company and its offerings.

  • Develop and improve educational content, design specifications, and design manuals/guides for the Kiwi Newton Building Systems.

  • Research and monitor industry trends to ensure Kiwi Newton continues on an innovative and integral path.


General Proposals and Lead Development

  • The Sales Engineer is effectively a Project Manager for a pursuit from first contact to final contract, and responsible for moving a potential project through the Sales Phase and organizing all other team members required throughout this phase.

  • Respond to requests for Design-Build quotes and determine the appropriate level of effort needed to invest into each pursuit.

  • Develop project specific Design-Build proposal including concept level designs and estimates.

  • Develop a projects scope of work, milestone schedule, and preliminary budget proposal.

  • Develop the final and complete Design-Build proposal and prepare all contract documents that will form the final Contract.

  • Negotiate the final contract terms.


Bids and Tenders

  • Take ultimate ownerships for all Bid, Tender, and RFP/RFQ/RFEOI final submission packages.

  • Manage the proposal response effort including coordinating necessary meetings and acting as the central point of communication for the proposal response team (internal and external).

  • Write various proposal sections as required.

  • Ensure that submissions adhere to specifications, requirements and outlines set out in the tender packages.


Required Skills/Experience

  • Degree in Structural Engineering with particular interest in Steel and Precast Concrete construction.

  • 3-5 years of experience in the construction industry, with preference given to Design-Build projects.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) is an asset.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.

  • Experience with drawing and modeling software would be considered an asset (Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, etc.).

  • Understanding of CCDC contracts, particularly the CCDC 14 Design-Build Stipulated Price Contract.

  • Understanding of Canadian Building Codes.

  • Experience with estimating and quantity take off during conceptual stages of a project.

  • Experience writing proposals and submitting detailed packages as responses to Bids, Tenders and RFP/RFQ/RFEOI’s

  • Excellent writing, editing, presenting and communication.

  • Good project administration and management skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and to prioritize work effectively.

  • A commitment to project/task completion and follow-through.

  • Self motivated, energetic, reliable and strong ability to problem solve.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and MS Project.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.

  • Prior leadership or construction management/project management experience helpful.
