The Structural Engineer reports to the Vice President, Design & Engineering. The Structural Engineer is expected to be detail oriented when designing structures, components, and making adjustments to existing designs. Collaborative work with the Design and Engineering team is common, though the Structural Engineer is expected to complete drawings, designs, adjustments, and troubleshoot complications individually. Verbal and written communication is expected to be excellent between all divisions and with clients.
Requirements
Communicate proficiently between clients, engineering and design team, and other divisions (both verbal and written)
Create new build designs for proposals
Adjust, manipulate and manage designs per client expectations
Prepare plans and designs in accordance with established codes and standards
Create designs and building plans using internal software to client specification
Development and implementation of the latest technology and methods to improve efficiency, accuracy and productivity for the department where approved
Participates in Weekly Production Meeting as required
Prepare or arrange for the preparation of reports concerning the progress of each project in meeting established cost, schedule targets and other contract commitments
Ensure that action is taken to correct off-standard performance and achieve contractual obligations
Oversee the proper execution of design activities within the Design team
Provide timely follow-up and inputs to the Project Delivery Team regarding design budgets, timelines and resources
Consult with internal Managers and Supervisors to ensure project deliverables deadlines are met and within budget
Troubleshoot and investigate complications between design and production
Collaborate with the Design, Engineering, and other divisional teams
Work independently on projects and designs for clients, both internal and external
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Engineering – Current P. Eng or in the process of obtaining and related work experience
A minimum of five (5) years working with engineered shop drawings in a structural steel manufacturing environment
Strong computer skills (MS Office, MRP etc)
A self-starter with the ability to set and handle multiple priorities
Consistently works on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues
Excellent communications skills both written and oral
Possess excellent organizational and analytical skills
