Wilson Street Parkade Groundbreaking
2018-03-06
The Groundbreaking event for the Wilson Street Parkade was hosted by the City of Guelph on February 22nd at City Hall. The event celebrated the construction of the first parkade to be built in Guelph in over 30 years.
Remarks were given from Mayor Cam Guthrie, City of Guelph CAO Derrick Thomson and Downtown Guelph Business Association’s Executive Director Marty Williams, while a grand reveal of the new parkade’s concept art and an on-site photo of the first turning of the dirt took place. The event provided an opportunity for citizens, businesses, staff and media to be a part of the beginning of this exciting new project.
Newton Group Ltd. was awarded this design-build contract in July 2017. Construction has now officially begun and is expected to be completed at the end of Summer 2019. The new parkade will provide 496 parking spaces, adding an additional 414 spots to the downtown core. It will also include bicycle parking, charging stations for electric vehicles and elevator access. Newton Group Ltd. will also be reconstructing the Norfolk pedestrian bridge to improve access to downtown. Our Owner/President Ed Newton took part in the official Groundbreaking event.
