Guelph, ON – March 21, 2025 – Kiwi Newton (Newton Group Ltd.) is proud to announce its role as a lead partner in a landmark initiative under Canada’s Advanced Manufacturing Homebuilding Challenge (AMHC)—a $95 million national investment program launched by Next Generation Manufacturing Canada (NGen) to transform how homes are built in Canada.
Kiwi Newton joins forces with Linamar Innovation Hub and Home Opportunities Non-Profit Corporation in the Advanced Manufacturing for Affordable Home Building project. This initiative will develop scalable, sustainable, and cost-efficient housing solutions through advanced prefabricated construction methods.
“Canada needs more housing, built faster and smarter,. Through this collaboration, we’re applying modern manufacturing solutions to help address Canada’s housing crisis—while creating jobs, cutting emissions, and strengthening our domestic supply chain.”
– Ed Newton, President & CEO of Kiwi Newton.
National Context: A First Wave of Transformative Projects
Announced on March 21, 2025, NGen’s initial $33 million investment in the AMHC program has catalyzed an additional $62 million in industry funding, launching 12 project consortia that include 33 partners from across the country. Kiwi Newton’s project is one of these 12, selected as part of the first cohort to pilot high-impact solutions to some of Canada’s most urgent housing challenges.
Canada must triple the rate of new home construction, reduce building costs by 54%, lower per-home carbon emissions by over 20%, and increase labour productivity by 60% to meet national targets for 2030. The AMHC initiative aims to deliver these outcomes by leveraging collaboration, automation, digitalization, and innovation.
“By supporting these projects, we’re not just building homes faster, cheaper, and greener—we’re scaling up and promoting the use of innovative technologies and materials that will change the way we build homes in Canada.”
– Jayson Myers, CEO of NGen.
Kiwi Newton’s Contribution: The Kiwi Precast System
At the centre of Kiwi Newton’s role is the Kiwi Precast System, a modular construction approach that integrates multiple building systems—electrical, mechanical, insulation, and structural—into precast concrete panels. These components are fabricated in-house at Kiwi Newton’s facility in Guelph, Ontario.
The result is a faster, safer, and more sustainable building process that delivers:
- Up to 60% greater energy efficiency
- Dramatically reduced GHG emissions
- Lower construction and lifecycle costs
- Consistent quality through controlled manufacturing
This integrated system enables rapid on-site assembly and supports the kind of scale and replicability needed to meet Canada’s growing housing demands.
