Project Name:

Dean Lake Bridge Rehabilitation

The Project

Kiwi Newton, as the design-builder for this bridge project in Iron Bridge, Ontario, successfully delivered a robust and upgraded bridge structure. Key project elements included:

  • A significant load capacity increase, boosting the bridge’s live load from 5 tons to 28 tons by reducing dead load.
  • Enhanced durability with an upgrade from a wooden deck to a fiberglass deck, optimizing for longevity.
  • Surface preparation and maintenance, which involved water blasting and painting the steel structure for protection against the elements.

The bridge installation involved three spans, each composed of 36m x 4m decks. Kiwi Newton engineered and built three fiberglass composite panels for each span, aligning with project specifications and timeline. Demolition commenced in October, and the newly constructed bridge was opened to the public in February, meeting the client’s expectations for quality and timeliness.
