Project Name:

Shellard Road Bridge Rehabilitation

The Project

Kiwi Newton was selected to carry out the rehabilitation of the Shellard Road Bridge over Mill Creek in Cambridge, Ontario, completing the project within a two-month period. The scope involved the removal of the existing narrow, two-lane concrete bridge and its steel substructure. Partial reconstruction up to the top of the abutments and wing walls was also undertaken to prepare for the installation of the new bridge components.

The project introduced a new steel substructure supporting a wider, precast bridge deck with integrated parapet walls. Kiwi Newton placed the precast deck and parapet walls on the steel structure, securing them as a unified unit through grouting. A concrete topping layer was applied to the deck for added durability and strength, while riprap shoulders were installed at each abutment to provide erosion control and protect the structure from water-related wear.

This project highlighted Kiwi Newton’s expertise in bridge rehabilitation, ensuring enhanced durability and safety for the newly upgraded structure.
