Linamar Giga Factory

Overview:
In 2024, Kiwi Newton successfully completed the design and construction of Linamar’s groundbreaking Giga Facility in Welland, Ontario. This state-of-the-art, 300,000 square-foot facility is a major leap forward for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing in North America, housing cutting-edge gigacasting technology. The facility is the first Tier 1 auto parts supplier-owned gigacasting plant in the region, positioning Linamar at the forefront of electric mobility innovation.

Scope of Work:

• Design & Construction: Completed on a redeveloped industrial site, covering 300,000 square feet.
• High-Pressure Die-Casting Integration: The facility features three of the world’s largest 6,100-ton gigacasting machines.
• Automation & Machining: The plant is equipped to perform casting, machining, and coating operations in one streamlined process, enhancing the production of lightweight aluminum components for EVs.

Key Features:

• Cutting-Edge Technology: Giga casting, using high-pressure die-casting, allows for the creation of large aluminum EV components in a single step, reducing both production time and costs.
• Sustainability: The facility supports Linamar’s shift toward sustainable vehicle manufacturing, emphasizing electrification and lightweighting EV components to lower emissions.
