Construction Engineering Technologist

Location: Guelph, Ontario
Full-time, Permanent

As the Construction Engineering Technologist at Kiwi Newton Group, you will play a key role in supporting our construction projects through precise layout work, accurate interpretation of drawings, effective field coordination, and a commitment to quality and safety. Working closely with site and project teams, you will ensure that each phase of construction is executed to design intent, technical standards, and organizational expectations. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, solutions-driven individual who thrives in dynamic site environments and enjoys contributing directly to the successful delivery of ICI building projects.

Position Details:

  • Headquarters: 41 Massey Rd., Guelph, Ontario, Canada, N1H 7M6
  • Monday to Friday (hours vary based on project schedules)
  • Full-time, on site, with regular travel to construction sites
  • Work closely with Site Superintendents, Construction Manager, Engineers, Subcontractors, and field teams

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform accurate and efficient layout work for structural, architectural, and civil components
  • Inspect work for conformity to engineering requirements, design intent, and site drawings
  • Read, review, and interpret engineering drawings, shop drawings, and construction documentation
  • Ensure all field work complies with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and specifications
  • Support the Site Superintendent with quality control, daily coordination, and site organization
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams
  • Communicate effectively with the Project Management team to maintain workflow and address site needs
  • Promote site safety, identify hazards, and encourage safe work practices
  • Maintain an organized and efficient job site and temporary field office
  • Use CAD, Total Station, and other digital tools to support layout, accuracy, and project planning
  • Assist with documentation, quantity verification, measurements, and field reporting

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license required and willingness to travel to job sites
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting structural, civil, and architectural drawings
  • Working knowledge of CAD software and Total Station equipment
  • Highly organized with a systematic approach to achieving accuracy and efficiency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; effective listener and collaborator
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under time, cost, and technical constraints
  • Self-motivated, independent worker capable of managing tasks with minimal supervision
  • Understanding of construction techniques, equipment, materials, drawings, and standards
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship
  • Professional and technically competent
  • Familiarity with Procore or Sage Timberline is considered an asset
