The Project

The Kitchener Market project, led by Kiwi Newton in collaboration with Terra View Homes under the Barrel Works Group, was a comprehensive redevelopment initiative aimed at revitalizing downtown Kitchener. The project included the design and construction of a modern market complex featuring 350 underground parking spaces and a seamless service drive for vendor access, improving both functionality and traffic flow.

Spanning approximately 220,000 square feet, the market incorporated indoor and outdoor spaces, designed with input from local stakeholders and the University of Waterloo’s School of Architecture. The project also involved the construction of 68 mid-range condominiums and two retail buildings, contributing to the urban renewal of the area.

With a budget of $25 million, the project was a significant success, enhancing the market’s operational efficiency while adding quality residential and commercial spaces to the city. Kiwi Newton’s role in this project demonstrated their expertise in design-build, ensuring the development met the city’s goals and community needs while revitalizing a key area of Kitchener.
